Yes, food science and technology is fair game here… it’s kinda a bit more important to your health than having the latest cell phone. Years ago, I stopped eating at Quiznos. No, I wasn’t seeing the pounds get put on, but I became (more) health conscious, and started reading nutritional facts on what was going into my body. Quiznos however is one of the few fast food restaurants that won’t disclose their info.
If they’re legally allowed to or not is questionable. Technically it’s “hand-made” food, no different from a restaruant. And, I’m not one to be a member of the food police. But, I do vote with my wallet… and when you can easily provide nutritional info, you should. Unless, of course, you have something to hide… all those special sauces and random meats probably are loaded to the tilt with sodium and fat. What? Quiznos somehow found out how to beat Subway in the tastes-good-and-is-healthy-fast-food game, with magic? Didn’t think so…
For years, this stalemated. Quiznos not wanting to reveal that their subs were indulgence foods, and consumers starting to realize this on their own. Finally, Quiznos has agreed to post nutritional info. They have said they will do so by the end of Fall.
This comes as Quiznos has started to roll out Sammies, which are basically pita-based versions of their popular sub sandwiches. However, I think this will finally allow Jared to let folks know the truth: Quiznos tastes better, because it’s not healthy food. On a more positive note, you’ll at least know what you’re eating, and that will probably have me stopping at Quiznos more times than the current rate of never.
Now, when will Subway bring back their Boneless BBQ Rib sub? That reminds me, McRib is back at McDonalds (and is actually a trans fat free offering). Someone pass me the Krusty Ribwich…
